The Top Lipstick Trends For 2021

How are we already in May? The year is flying by, but we’ve still got a good few months left to embrace the biggest trends of the makeup world. Bonus, we can show them off to real-life people instead of just over Zoom, as restrictions (finally!) begin to rise.

2020 was a bit of a flop year for lipstick, most of us hiding the majority of our faces behind masks. In 2021, lipstick is back in a BIG way.

This year’s lipstick trends are ALL about colour – and don’t we deserve it? As we transition from Spring to Summer, it’s time to be bold and make the most of your features. Also trending are balmy textures, giving way to easy, comfortable wearing. Whether you’re a bride-to-be or just want to be at the forefront of trends when you’re socialising again, here are the top lipstick trends for 2021.

1. Soft, Balmy Textures
This last year has been hard enough, why overcomplicate things with dry, immoveable lipstick? We want plump, soft-finish lips with a subtle sheen that we can reapply throughout the day with an easy swipe, without needing too many different tools and products. Try Charlotte Tilbury’s Hyaluronic Happikiss lipsticks, infused with hyaluronic acid for an ultra-hydrating feel that is super comfortable (even under masks!). This lipstick comes in many shades, but the Pillow Talk shade will hold up for every skin tone.

2. Bold Orange Lips
Don’t be scared! An orange lipstick can be beautiful – you just need to find the right tone for you. It’s a sure-fire way to up your cool factor. Start off soft with a hydrating, coral shade from NARS for instant vibrancy.

3. A Classic Nude Lip
Let’s be honest, a nude never goes out of style. With many of us still working from home, nude lipstick can help us ease back into wearing makeup without too much effort. You can amplify your everyday look and dial-up your eyes using this buttery shade from NYX.

4. Mood-boosting Colour
We’ve had enough of feeling down. Paint your sunny mood on your face with a pop of colour, such as this amazing colour from Bobbi Brown. This pigmented shade is infused with bright colour, while the applicator is designed for you to sculpt your pout easily. And as before – this one won’t dry out your lips.

4. Long-wear Stains
We might be coming back to some sense of normality, but it doesn’t mean masks are gone yet! Get around the problem of your lipstick rubbing all over your mask (and your face!) by investing in a lip stain that will not only give you that trendy bold colour, but that will also have huge staying power. It’s time for the resurgence of the cult classic: Benefit’s Benetint. You can also double up its use by adding colour to your cheeks.
