Everyone has adapted so well, changing their professional and personal habits and creating a ‘new normal’.
One thing that definitely sticks out as a fixture of lockdown is the increase in virtual meetings and video phone calls. Whether on Zoom, Skype or FaceTime, these programmes are the best way to stay in touch with our loved ones and professional connections right now. Whether it’s a fun pub quiz, a Wine Wednesday catch up with the girls or even a full-blown company board meeting, there’s no getting away from the fact that for now, video chat is here to stay.
So how should you present yourself on your upcoming Zoom call? Unfortunately, with bad lighting and a lot of people set up at makeshift desks, it’s likely that you might not be on your top form. But that’s okay; I’m here to help. You want to look your best, but not like you’ve tried too hard, right?
Keep reading to find out the best makeup tricks to blow everyone away on your next Zoom call…
Nourish and Tint
Depending on your technology, it’s likely the camera will pick up everything, sometimes unfavourably so. Rather than heavy, cakey foundation, using a light, tinted coverage will cover any blemishes, but leave your skin feeling and looking really fresh. Using something like Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint will give a wash of colour and a brightened complexion without making you feel like you’re heading out on the town.
A Pop of Colour
Remember I mentioned the bad lighting? All you need is a sweep of a blush that suits your skin tone. A creme blush, just like Charlotte Tilbury’s Beach Stick adds a wash of rosy glow to make you look soft-focused and healthy.
Give your face some definition by filling in your brows. Try the Brow Definer by Anastasia Beverley Hills – a cult classic with a double ended stick – one side with a creamy, easily applied formula, and the other a spoolie to brush through any harsh lines.
Curl and Lift
Define your eyes by first curling your lashes, and then applying a mascara you can wear without feeling like you’re wearing falsies but which still give you a bit of oomph on screen. Try Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced which coats every lash and lasts all day.
A Balmy Finish
Now’s the time to lean away from multi-step, bold lip routines – unless that’s your signature, in which case go for it! A little colour will go a long way, and you’ll want to avoid anything that gives off too much high shine. Back again with a lovely product, it’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Lustre in the incredible shade Pillow Talk which flatters all shades and won’t get tacky as you talk.
Let me know if you use these tips – even if not used for video chat, this makeup is wonderful as an everyday, fresh look.
